With just a few simple ingredients, these are a fizzy, more fun way to clean your toilet bowl. They clean and deodorize just as well as store-bought cleaners without any harsh chemicals!

To create these homemade toilet cleaning bombs, you’ll need natural ingredients like baking soda, citric acid, liquid castile soap, and your favorite cleaning essential oils. This recipe is perfect for those looking for a non-toxic cleaning solution.

Baking soda and citric acid are popular ingredients in bath bombs and DIY cleaners, like these toilet cleaning bombs. The chemical reaction between baking soda and citric acid produces carbon dioxide gas. The result is a fizzy, natural cleaner that has a variety of uses.

Making them feels like a mini science experiment. My son loves mixing because he enjoys the fizzing sound.

EQUIPMENT NEEDED

  • silicone mold or ice cube tray
  • small mixing bowl
  • medium mixing bowl
  • spoon
  • airtight jar for storage (I like to use a glass jar like this)

NATURAL INGREDIENTS

  • 1 tbsp. liquid castile soap
  • 1/2 c. baking soda
  • 2 tbsp. citric acid
  • 15 drops of essential oils

Third Step: Add liquid soap mixture into dry mixture. Stir well until consistency is similar to wet sand.

Fourth Step: Press mixture into cavities of silicone mold or ice cube tray. Leave a little space because ingredients will expand slightly.

Fifth Step: Let sit at least 4 hours to dry. Once dry, store DIY toilet bombs in an airtight container for storage. I try not to store anything containing essential oils in plastic containers.

Should be kept at room temperature in a dry place out of direct sunlight. If stored properly, they last 3 – 4 months.

Tip – if you let them dry in front of a fan, it will cut the dry time down to about half.

TIPS FOR MAXIMIZING RESULTS

  • Clean your toilet frequently.
    • Cleaning toilets is not my favorite job, but as a mom of 2 boys I can tell you it needs to be done often to keep it fresh and clean. Thankfully, if you keep up with it, it only takes a few minutes. Also, if you have a hard water issue, frequent cleansing can prevent having to scrub intensely.
  • Choose pure essential oils that are known for their cleaning power.
    • Tea Tree, Thieves, or Citrus oils are all great options.
  • Already have stubborn stains?
    • If you already have stubborn stains, drop in one of your DIY toilet cleaning bombs and scrub it around a little bit with your toilet brush. Allow solution to soak in toilet bowl for at least 10 minutes. Go back and scrub again.
