HAMBURGER GRAVY

Hamburger gravy is a staple in our home all year round. This is one of my go-to recipes when I need something quick and easy to make. It is so hearty and delicious! You can even make it ahead of time and then just reheat it for evenings that you’re in a time crunch.

Most of the time we just eat it served over mashed potatoes. However, if I’m planning ahead, we love to serve it over a slice of bread or dinner roll on the bottom, mashed potatoes layered on top of the roll, and then with candied carrots on the side – Yum!

WHAT EQUIPMENT DO YOU NEED?

  • Skillet
  • Measuring cups & spoons
  • Medium size bowl
  • Whisk
  • Wooden spoon

WHAT INGREDIENTS ARE NEEDED?

  • 1 lb. hamburger
  • 1 small onion or 1/2 tsp. onion powder
  • 1/3 c. flour
  • 2 c. beef broth
  • salt & pepper

CAN YOU MAKE THIS HAMBURGER GRAVY RECIPE GLUTEN-FREE?

Yes! Substitute the flour for a 1:1 gluten free flour of your choice. We have used Bob’s Red Mill 1:1 baking flour several times. It’s just as tasty!

DIRECTIONS FOR MAKING HAMBURGER GRAVY

Chop up onion into small pieces (if using).

Fry hamburger & onion in skillet with a little water. Break up hamburger into pieces as it cooks, until browned.

Drain water and fat off.

Add broth mixture to skillet with meat.

Sprinkle in salt & pepper to taste. Measure out onion powder and add that now if using instead of chopped onion.

Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until broth has thickened.

Enjoy!

STORAGE

Store leftovers in an airtight container, refrigerated for up to 3 days.

Leftovers can be reheated in a microwave.

We prefer to reheat it in the oven at 350 degrees using a glass dish. It usually takes about 20 minutes but depends on the amount you are reheating.

Hello there!

I’m Sarah, wife and homeschooling mama of 2 boys.

When I’m not in the kitchen cooking and baking up a storm, I love being outdoors enjoying the sunshine or going for an evening golf cart stroll with my hubby on our farm.

I have a passion for keeping our home free of chemicals and making from-scratch meals we can all enjoy.

I thank God each day for giving me the opportunity to share my mission of keeping our home as natural and healthy as possible.

Blessings,
