Experience the Incredible Power of Manuka Honey. It is the Best At-Home Face Mask.

For individuals with sensitive skin, it can be challenging to find suitable beauty products that do not cause some sort of skin irritation.
This 1 natural ingredient is a perfect solution because it is not only gentle on sensitive skin but has numerous benefits that can leave your skin looking and feeling better than ever!
WHAT IS MANUKA HONEY?
Manuka honey is a raw honey produced by bees that pollinate the flower of the Leptospermum scoparium tree, native to New Zealand (also known as the manuka tree). Its antibacterial properties are what distinguish it from conventional honey, and it is the only type of honey to have its own rating system.
BENEFITS OF USING MANUKA HONEY ON YOUR SKIN
Contains antibacterial properties that aid in fighting bacteria on the skin. It can help address acne by targeting acne-causing bacteria, reducing inflammation, and preventing future breakouts.
Anti-inflammatory. It may assist in reducing redness and swelling by soothing and alleviating irritated skin.
Promotes wound healing. It can enhance the wound healing process, promote the formation of new tissues, and reduce scarring.
Reduces the appearance of pores. It can help keep pores clean and free from debris, potentially lowering the risk of breakouts due to its antibacterial properties. Over time, pore visibility may decrease.
Keeps the skin hydrated. As a natural humectant, it attracts water from the air into the skin, aiding in hydration. A bonus for individuals with dry skin.
Rich in antioxidant properties. It helps protect the skin from free radicals caused by environmental stressors.
Natural exfoliant. Its natural enzymes act as a gentle exfoliator on the skin by loosening and removing dead skin cells, and encouraging the growth of new cells, also known as cell turnover. This can lead to a brighter, more even complexion. Regular use may result in smoother, more radiant skin.
HOW TO USE
Note: this probably goes without saying, but if you’ve ever had any allergic reactions to bees, pollen, or honey, this is not an at-home face mask for you.
Also, before starting any new skincare routine, whether the product is a natural ingredient or not, always do a small patch test for sensitivity. If you’re not familiar with a skin patch test, here is a quick tutorial.
I use manuka honey as both an at-home face mask and spot treatment for pimples. It can significantly reduce redness overnight and clear up a zit within a couple days.
To use as a face mask: Start out with a clean slate. Wash your face with a cleanser of your choice. Pat dry. Spread desired amount on face using your fingertips avoiding sensitive areas such as your eyes (I generally use about a tablespoon of honey). Let sit at least 15 minutes. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
To clear up zit: Dab a small amount of honey directly on zit. Let sit at least 30 minutes. I’ve even left it on overnight – keep in mind it could get on your bedding. Rinse off with lukewarm water.
WHAT TO LOOK FOR WHEN PURCHASING MANUKA HONEY
Not all manuka honey is the same.
For some of the purposes we have used manuka honey, we purchased one with a higher grade UMF. This article is a great resource about the manuka honey grading system and what type to choose for different uses.

WHERE CAN I FIND MANUKA HONEY?
We have bought manuka honey several times at our local health food store, but it is also available on Amazon.
For this simple at-home face mask or minor skin issues such as cuts or abrasions, we use this one.
For digestive issues, we use this one.
ANOTHER TIP FOR HEALTHY SKIN
- Your skin is the largest organ of your body. Healthy skin begins with a healthy diet. The best nutrients for healthy skin include: Vitamin A, Vitamin C, Vitamin E, essential fatty acids, Selenium, Zinc, Copper, and antioxidants like polyphenols, all of which can contribute to skin elasticity, collagen production, protection from sun damage, and overall skin health.
OTHER BENEFITS OUR FAMILY HAS EXPERIENCED FROM USING MANUKA HONEY
- Helped my son heal his digestive tract after a recurrent C Diff infection
- I gave my 5-year-old son, a 1/2 teaspoon orally 2 times per day. It is proven not only to have antibacterial and anti-inflammatory properties, but also to boost the growth of beneficial bacteria in your microbiome. Along with other protocols with our naturopathic doctor, I feel that the manuka honey was beneficial in our son’s recovery from C Diff.
- Healing wounds
- Manuka honey is our go-to for wound care. I no longer buy any sort of antibiotic cream from the store. As needed, we just scoop out the amount needed with a spoon and put it on a band aid before wrapping it around the affected area.
- Sore throat or cough
- 1 teaspoon a few times a day helps reduce a sore throat and cough. Sometimes if we’re traveling during cold and flu season, we will take some just to give our immune system a little extra boost.
- Remove milia from around eyes
- I successfully removed milia from around my eyes by just dabbing a small amount of manuka honey on the milia and letting it sit overnight. Be extra careful not to get any in your eyes. It took me 3 times of covering the milia overnight for it to come right off without any pain or leaving any sort of mark (mine was about a 1/2 inch distance away from my eye).
- Burns
- We have only had a few minor burns in our home. The honey has been great at quickly relieving the pain and healing it up nicely.

Homemade face masks do not need to be complicated. This is one of the most simple DIY masks – You don’t even need a mixing bowl!
Personally, for my oily skin, my nighttime routine (about 3 times a week) has been, after I wash my face, I will put on a coat of manuka honey for half an hour.
I love finding natural ingredients, I already have on hand, that have the ability to be used as part of my skincare routine. Try it out in the comfort of your own home. You may just find your acne-prone skin healing, pores shrinking, and face feeling refreshed and rejuvenated like I did.
Blessings,
