EQUIPMENT NEEDED
- bread maker – I have an old bread machine that is no longer available. Here is one similar to mine.
- bread pan (10x5x3 inch)
- measuring cups & spoons
- towel
- oven
- oven mitts
- cooling rack
BREAD MACHINE NOTES
Make sure to follow the instructions of your bread machine manual. My manual instructs me to put any liquid ingredients in the bread pan first, followed by the dry ingredients. So, that is the order I list all the ingredients and instructions for this recipe.
I also choose not to bake the bread in my bread machine. I prefer to run my bread machine on the dough cycle and transfer the dough to a bread pan to bake. This of course is an optional step.
You could certainly just choose the white bread cycle on your machine with the 1.5 lb loaf size and bake it in your bread machine that way if you prefer.
WHITE BREAD MACHINE RECIPE COMPLETE LIST OF INGREDIENTS
- 1 c. warm water
- 1/4 c. avocado oil
- 1 tsp. salt
- 2 tbsp. sugar
- 3 c. all purpose flour (or bread flour)
- 1 package active dry yeast (for best results make sure your yeast is fresh)
- cooking spray
*Note: You can swap the avocado oil for another neutral tasting oil, however I do not recommend using olive oil. For some reason every time I’ve tried it, the loaf ends up smelling and tasting like the yeast has fermented.
DIRECTIONS HOW TO MAKE WHITE BREAD DOUGH IN A BREAD MACHINE
Start out by measuring your warm water and pour it into the bottom of your bread machine pan.
Next, add in the oil, salt, and sugar.
Last, measure the flour and pour that into a heap on top. With the bottom of your measuring cup, make a small indentation (sometimes called a yeast crater) in the top of the flour and put the yeast into the indentation.

Choose the dough cycle on your bread machine and press start.
Watch as the cycle begins to ensure all the flour pulls from the outside and a ball of dough forms in the center as the kneading blade pushes the ingredients around. The dough should seem somewhat smooth, but slightly sticky to the touch.
**If the dough is too sticky, add a little bit more flour.
Once the dough cycle is complete, let dough rise in bread machine pan until dough has doubled in size.
Punch down dough and remove bread machine pan from machine.
Grease a bread loaf pan.
Remove dough from bread machine pan and form bread loaf by tucking the edges beneath the loaf and pinching the seams together. Place formed loaf in greased baking pan with seam side down. Cover with a towel and let it rise until close to double in size again (usually takes 30 – 40 minutes depending on the temperature of your home).

When dough has risen for 2nd time, preheat oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit.
Bake loaf for 25-30 minutes until bread is golden brown on top. You will know when it’s done if you gently tap the top and it sounds hollow.

Let baked bread cool in pan for 10 minutes. If necessary, carefully loosen edges of bread from sides of pan using a butter knife. Dump bread out on to a cooling rack. Flip bread so it is upright. (Be careful. If pan is still too hot to touch – use oven mitts.)
Let bread cool completely before slicing with a serrated knife. Enjoy!

Note: This bread is naturally dairy-free. However, if you’re not dairy-free, you could spread a very light coat of melted butter on the top of your fresh baked loaf of bread.
HOW TO STORE FRESH HOMEMADE BREAD
The shelf life on homemade bread is a lot less than store bought because, thankfully, it does not have any of the preservatives.
Let the bread cool completely to room temperature before storing it in either an airtight container or plastic bag. It should be kept out of direct sunlight.
If it lasts longer than 2 days, you can place it in the fridge to extend the shelf life a little longer. I say “if” because it is usually gone by the next day in our home. 🙂
